Templewood is an active investor in the private middle market.

Our team seeks to invest between £10m and £100m (sector dependent) for control or significant minority stakes in growth businesses, real estate and other projects. Occasionally, we consider compelling opportunities with a greater or lesser capital requirement.

Whilst we are happy to qualify and collaborate on projects brought by intermediaries, our strong relationships with entrepreneurs, network partners and private wealth generate many interesting, off-market opportunities. We only invest where we have a strong information advantage, with these projects tending to be in the real estate, power (including renewable energy), digital and industrial sectors.

One of our core beliefs is that capital, on its own, is rarely sufficient to transform a business or to allow a project to achieve its true potential. Our strong operational focus means that we are ideally placed to identify and invest in those projects that can provide, with work, the greatest transformation in value. We also provide assistance to existing owners or sponsors of underperforming assets on a partnership or advisory basis.

Once engaged with management, the team’s extensive investment expertise enables it to determine and arrange capital structures that can optimise value creation and growth; we are experienced in running M&A programmes for buy and build, arranging and negotiating debt and managing external stakeholders. From origination, through execution and portfolio management, we are conscious of the desired investment duration, the liquidity options available over time and optimal stakeholder composition.

Templewood is fortunate to have at its disposal a pool of internal and external functional and sector experts with strong leadership skills that can quickly assess and improve an extremely broad range of operational, management, technology, marketing and personnel issues within our portfolio businesses. Even specialist turnaround groups will rarely have access to such a diverse network of operational expertise as Templewood.

Something we also hold to be true is that some traditional private equity investment structures do not support value creation. Our flexible investment structure allows us to be patient investors and hold successful businesses for as long as we deem prudent, rather than according to the requirements of institutional fund cycles, fund investors or an eager investor relations team. Through our unique, flexible investment platform, we offer family offices and other investors the ability to participate in our opportunities on a pooled, segregated account and deal-by-deal basis, rather than simply through a single blind pool.
